Your examination consists of many parts:
- Refraction of the eye, ie determining your prescription
- Examination of eye muscle performance and health
- Ophthalmoscopy, ie determining the internal eye health – dilation of the eye may be required
- Slit lamp examination, ie determining external eye health and dry eye assessment
- Tonometry, ie measuring the pressure of the eye
- Visual field examination, ie measuring the extent and sensitivity of the human visual field
- Colour vision and macular function examination
- Retinal photography, ie photographing the front and back of the eye to detect and evaluate retinal disease, as in diabetes, glaucoma, vascular and neural disease
