Your examination consists of many parts:

  • Refraction of the eye, ie determining your prescription
  • Examination of eye muscle performance and health
  • Ophthalmoscopy, ie determining the internal eye health – dilation of the eye may be required
  • Slit lamp examination, ie determining external eye health and dry eye assessment
  • Tonometry, ie measuring the pressure of the eye
  • Visual field examination, ie measuring the extent and sensitivity of the human visual field
  • Colour vision and macular function examination
  • Retinal photography, ie photographing the front and back of the eye to detect and evaluate retinal disease, as in diabetes, glaucoma, vascular and neural disease
